What is Coronavirus?

The CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in more than 1500 locations internationally, including in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).

The coronavirus is a community acquired infection that should have a community centered response. The CovidMD® Volunteer Taskforce is an example of a private-public sector collaboration to national service that delivers a grassroots virtual triaging system so that no person is left behind in getting the human support and care they need. #wereinthistogethermyCOVIDMD® is Here!

Shared Harvest, a Los Angeles-based social enterprise launches myCovidMD® and myCovid19.live – a free telehealth and online portal that together, safely connect residents to resources in real-time, by real people.

The initiative is powered by Community Health Partners (CHPs), a volunteer citizens task force created to reach people that are uninsured, underinsured, homeless and or displaced from a medical home due to Covid-19 and nation-wide quarantine.

Volunteer CHPs include trained doctors, nurses, PAs, CNAs, EMTs, therapists, social workers, nutrition coaches and other frontline health providers.   They receive sponsored funds for their service towards student debt reduction or an emergency savings account.  We provide this reward because we want to take care of the financial health and mental wellbeing of those who are taking care of others during this critical time.

What are the symptoms?

According to the CDC, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.*

Cough

A persistent moderate or severe cough is another symptom to monitor closely.

Fever

Have a high fever? Make an appointment with your provider to see if you might be at risk for the Coronavirus.

Shortness of Breath

Have you been feeling a tightness in your chest or having difficulty breathing? Contact a medical professional immediately.

How does it spread?

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.

Human contact

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, especially between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), according to the CDC

Respitory droplets

The virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Hard surfaces

Hard surfaces can also host germs. Be sure to wipe down areas that are in contact with various people throughout the day.

How can we prevent it from spreading?

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Consider carrying hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Stay at home if you’re feeling sick and for up to 24 hours after your symptoms go away.
